OUR COMPANY HISTORY

Image

1930's

Don’t let the “vacuum” part of our name fool you. In the company’s history of more than 90 years, Super Vacuum Manufacturing has never once built a vacuum for cleaning floors. Rather, our name was coined during our 1930s beginnings when founder Horace Hull designed a recurved propeller blade that could create a powerful “super vacuum” to pull smoke from structure fires, thereby improving firefighter visibility. He called his company the Super Vacuum Propeller Company.

Eventually, Henry Zeiler, Hull’s son-in-law  joined the company.

Ervin Weinmeister, Zeiler’s son-in-law, joins the company and later becomes the Super Vac President. Erv dedicated 24 years to the Loveland Volunteer Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter.

During Erv’s firefighting tenure, Loveland needed a fire truck, and with Super Vacuum’s fabricating capabilities at the department’s disposal, Erv and the company built its first-ever fire truck in 1971. Decades later, the company still builds fire trucks as SVI Trucks, and now the division’s reach spans the nation, and into other countries.

In the early 1970s, the company also recognized the need for better scene lighting after a group of local firefighters struggled to light a steep incline during a canyon incident, the company began elevating and rotating scene lighting. Unofficially, Command Light was born.

PRESENT

Here, at our 160,000-square-foot facility in Fort Collins, Colo., we put our American Made stamp on everything that we build thanks to more than 190 skilled employees and a variety of independent manufacturing processes. With our non-ferrous foundry, on-site CNC machines, laser-cutting technologies, powder and wet paint booths and a myriad of other advancements, quality is never sacrificed here at Super Vac.

Most of the products made at Super Vacuum Manufacturing are used by emergency personnel to save lives. As such, we hold ourselves and employees to the same standard that we would expect of a responder who might save one of our friends or family members. We have a saying here …

“What we build today, may save a life tomorrow.”
And with that comes great pride.

Super Vacuum Manufacturing Co., Inc. Divisions

At Super Vac, we specialize in manufacturing fire equipment and emergency vehicles, and somewhere in that mix, we started making permanent holiday lighting products, too! But let’s get one thing clear … we don’t manufacturer vacuums, despite our company name. That’s just a misnomer that comes with a little company history that you’re welcome to read about on our History page. All that said, here’s what we build …
